Let it Snow!, South Carolina
Winter weather vacations are HOT!
There is nothing more beautiful than a pristine, untouched blanket of pure white snow; it is serene, sparkling, and quiet. However, there is nothing more fun than trouncing through said blanket of snow with your snowmobile, cross country skis, snowboard, or dogsled! Winter sports are plentiful in many areas of the United States and you should try them all!
Downhill skiing - whether you are a novice or a mogul expert, you will find plenty of satisfaction skiing in Vail, Lake Tahoe, Whistler, Park City, Killington, and many more. If you prefer soft, fluffy snow, consider a trip out west. If you prefer the challenge of ice carved moguls, perhaps a trip to Vermont is in order. You can travel with your own skis or rent them at the mountain but be sure to bring some toasty warm outwear because you are not going to want to go inside once you hit the slopes.
Snowboarding - if boarding is more your game, you should check out Breckenridge or Sun Valley where you can board like an Olympian at their respective super pipes.
Cross Country Skiing - most winter weather vacation destinations have cross country ski, or nordic, trails. This type of activity allows you to get in a good workout all the while enjoying the stunning views of the snow kissed mountains. You can choose trails based upon length or challenge.
Dogsledding - this may seem like a sport reserved for those in Alaska, however many winter weather vacation destinations offer dog sled trips. Check out Lake Tahoe and Breckenridge for tours and camping trips. Once you "mush", you will see why it is easily becoming a very popular winter activity.
Snowmobiling - Carve your own trails this winter on a snowmobile. These fun recreational vehicles, also known as snow machines or sleds, are designed to operate on trails or to make your own. Race your friends or simply enjoy the day touring new terrains. Pack a lunch, get on your sled, and goooooo!
For some, a winter weather vacation seems unappealing. The snow, the cold, the slush, the layers, it can be too much; however when you are curled up on a comfy chair in front of a roaring fire, sipping a hot toddy at the end of a long day of snow sporting, you will surely realize the wonders of a winter vacation.
